Petua Hindari Lipas

Sapa kat sini sejenis penggeli dengan binatang bernama lipas?

Aku ni salah seorangnya la. Bila aku nampak je binatang ni, auto rasa nak lari lintang-pukang. Nak tengok pun rasa meremang je bulu roma, sebab tu aku tak letak gambar sebenar makhluk ni kat blog entry ni!

Hatta tiap-tiap malam sebelum tidur aku dah make sure singki kosong takde sisa-sisa makanan, dapur dah dilap & disapu dan sampah dah dibuang pun masih lagi akan terjumpa kelibat makhluk ni esok pagi. Tempat favourite dieorang kabinet bawah singki (tempat simpan stok pencuci pinggan, pencuci baju dan segala botol penyembur) dan yang paling aku tak tahan, dalam singki tu jugak. Kalau aku terjumpa je, memang satu rumah la terkejut dengar aku menjerit!

Bulan lepas sebelum balik kampung, dah jadi kebiasaan aku akan bersihkan satu rumah. Siap mintak Suami Terchenta bersihkan bawah singki (sebab aku takut terjumpa binatang ni), dan tong sampah semua dikosongkan sebelum kiteorang balik kampung selama 10 hari. Bila kiteorang balik, boleh pulak terjumpa 3-4 ekor mak bapak makhluk ni bergelimpangan atas lantai! 

Sampaikan aku merungut dekat Suami Terchenta, kenapa ye, padahal rumah dah habis bersih tapi binatang ni selalu muncul? Pada pendapat Suami Terchenta, dieorang ni datang dari saluran singki dan 'drain'. Jadi kalau dah beranak-pinak dalam saluran tu, memang la dieorang merayap-rayap masuk rumah sesiapa pun. Lagi-lagi kiteorang ni duduk apartment. Sebab tu selalu terjumpa binatang ni dekat dapur / dekat toilet (lubang masuk dari floor drain).

Disebabkan aku sangat geli dengan binatang ni, aku pun 'Google' cara-cara menghindari binatang ni dari masuk ke rumah:

1. Guna cuka dan air panas

Caranya, campur cuka ke dalam air panas dalam nisbah 1:1, lepas tu gunakan campuran cuka dan air panas ni untuk lap permukaan kabinet dan mop lantai. Tuang campuran dalam lubang singki setiap malam untuk menghalang makhluk ni dari memanjat naik lubang singki.

2. Air panas, lemon dan soda bikarbonat (baking soda)

Campurkan jus perahan sebiji lemon dan 2 sudu besar soda bikarbonat ke dalam 1 liter air panas, kacau sampai sebati dan tuang ke dalam lubang singki atau basuh di bawah singki dan dalam laci untuk menghalang daripada membiak. 

3. Asid borik dan gula

Tabur gula dan asid borik ni di tempat yang selalu kita jumpa makhluk ni. Gula ni untuk umpan makan, dan bila lipas termakan asid borik ni ia akan mati serta-merta.

4. Essential Oils

Minyak EO lavender dan peppermint ni dikatakan boleh menghindari lipas bila disembur di seluruh kawasan dapur terutama dalam kabinet tempat dieorang bersembunyi.

5. Timun

Menurut petua ni, lipas tak suka bau timun jadi letakkan timun di tempat-tempat kita selalu jumpa makhluk ni.

Cukup la petua-petua yang aku jumpa ni menggunakan bahan-bahan yang kita selalu simpan di rumah. Ada lagi petua lain seperti menabur daun neem atau serbuk kayu manis bagi menghalang lipas dari masuk ke rumah.

Bersedekah di bulan Ramadan

Sedar tak sedar dah nak masuk 2 minggu kita berpuasa. Rasanya puasa kali ni paling santai & tenang sejak aku berhenti kerja 6 bulan lepas. 

Wah, dah 6 bulan aku resign rupa-rupanya. Syukur Allah mencukupkan keperluan keluarga kami macamana aku yakin dengan rezeki Allah bila aku hantar surat resign. Takpe, rezeki tu bukan datang dari Syarikat tapi dari Allah, aku bagitau Suami Terchenta sebab dia agak risau tak dapat nak cover komitmen bulanan kami. Tapi untuk redakan kerisauannya, aku buat jugak persediaan sebelum resign, cukupkan simpanan untuk kecemasan dan buat belanjawan bulanan supaya kami tak berbelanja melebihi kemampuan. Alhamdulillah sekarang Suami Terchenta dah kurang risau. In fact dia bagitau sejak aku resign, rezeki dia makin bertambah. Bagi aku, ni bukti kekuasaan Allah Maha Pemberi Rezeki, Subhanallah.

Point kat sini, kalau kita yakin rezeki datang dari Allah, kita tak akan risau rezeki kita tak cukup. Kita tak akan risau bila bersedekah malah mungkin kita lebih bersemangat untuk bersedekah sebab dalam rezeki kita terselit rezeki orang lain. Dengan bersedekah, kita berkongsi rezeki dengan orang lain tanpa rezeki kita tak berkurangan sedikit pun atau Allah gantikan dengan yang lebih baik.

Lebih-lebih lagi kalau kita bersedekah di bulan puasa, terutama bila kita bersedekah makanan berbuka puasa. Ganjaran dan pahala dari Allah berlipat kali ganda Insha Allah. Sebagaimana sabda Rasulullah SAW:


من فطر صائما كان له مثل أجره ، غير أنه لا ينقص من أجر الصائم شيئا

“Orang yang memberikan hidangan berbuka puasa kepada orang lain yang berpuasa, ia akan mendapatkan pahala orang tersebut tanpa sedikitpun mengurangi pahalanya.” (HR. At Tirmidzi no 807, ia berkata: “Hasan shahih”)

 

Sempena bulan Ramadan ni, Khadijah Learning Centre sedang melancarkan projek Ramadah Outreach Programme untuk menyediakan 200 juadah makanan bagi disedekahkan kepada komuniti setempat. Target derma dieorang nak kumpul ialah RM2000 dah sebanyak RM750 dah berjaya dikumpul. So ada RM1250 lagi untuk reach target.  Kalau 125 orang bersedekah RM10 seorang, Insha Allah dieorang akan dapat capai target tu.

Boleh jugak contact admin KLC untuk dapatkan maklumat lanjut. Jom kita bantu KLC jayakan projek Ramadan Outreach Programme, semoga Allah memberikan ganjaran pahala berlipat-ganda untuk kita, ameen ya Rabbal alamin...

Sahur & Iftar Package at Fairfield Kuala Lumpur by Marriott

For my husband's birthday celebration, we decided to celebrate it by going on a staycation within KL. Since my husband's birthday falls in Ramadhan this year, I decided to look for a hotel that offers sahoor & iftar package. My choice of hotel is always the Marriott Bonvoy brand because I signed up as a member a few years ago. At that time, I was always travelling on work trips so might as well I collect points for each hotel stay. Now even though I'm no longer working and travelling as much as last time, I have became a Silver Elite member in my fourth year.

Back to my hotel search. After browsing through KL hotels in Marriott Bonvoy app, I found out that Fairfield Kuala Lumpur is running a promotion 'Stay & Dine at Fairfield Kuala Lumpur'.

Since the package comes with buffet dinner and sahur, I proceeded to book a room. Marriott Bonvoy members can take advantage of Marriott Bonvoy's latest promotion where members can earn more bonus points and extra nights if they register for the campaign before 20 April and stay at any Marriott Bonvoy's hotel until 4 May 2022. For each night stay, members will get 1 bonus night and 1000 bonus points to add on to their tier.

For those who are not planning to stay at the hotel, they can also make reservation for the buffet dinner at the restaurant at RM138++ per pax (for adult) and RM65++ per pax (for children and senior citizen). The room package however gives more value because it comes with buffet for 2 pax and complimentary sahur. We had to add on buffet for our 2 kids and enjoyed further 10% discount as Marriot Bonvoy's Silver Elite member.

Fairfield Kuala Lumpur is a relatively new hotel which was opened to the public in December 2021. The hotel is located in Jalan Pahang and a few minutes away from Chow Kit monorail station. The hotel boasts of 186 guest rooms encapsulating modern aesthetic in its design. Since the hotel has no dedicated parking on-site, we decided to take a Grab car to go there.

We reached there in the afternoon at 3pm to check-in. Upon checking-in, I was given a form to choose sahur menu to be delivered to our room the next day. I also requested to activate mobile key using Marriott Bonvoy app, so I can access the room using my smartphone alone. 

We proceeded to our room at Level 13 which is the highest room floor. There are three types of room available - standard, deluxe and suite. The package that we took was for a standard room with twin beds.

Noting that Fairfield brand is catered for business travelers, I was not surprised to find the room to be basic and with minimal amenity. The designer did a good job maximising the space to fit super single beds, bedside table, sofa, side table, a minibar, coffee & tea station, mini safe, plasma TV panel and open wardrobe. The bathroom is of a good size with separate shower area, toilet and a long sink.

Praying in the room can be tricky due to the Qiblat direction and limited space, however guests can make use of the spacious surau with Moorish architecture located at the top floor (above our floor). Honestly, I was impressed that the surau is located at the top floor because in most hotels you will find surau is either in a small room located at common floor (same floor with restaurant or meeting room) that can fit in maybe less than 10 pax at a time or worse, in the basement parking. The surau is air-conditioned and can accommodate around 60 pax at a time, perfect for couples who wish to tie the knot before convening to the dining area after the Nikah. During Ramadhan, there is also daily terawih prayer conducted at the hotel's surau. And to be honest, I can't help thinking that I probably like the surau better than the room because the surau smells really nice thanks to their aircond scent diffuser!

While waiting for Iftar, I decided to check out other amenities in the hotel. The hotel has an aesthetic lounge complete with coffee maker at Level 1 and also meeting rooms.

There is also a spacious and well-equipped gym for hotel guests only. There are all sorts of cardio equipment as well as strength training equipment in the air-conditioned gym.

The signature restaurant called Lesung (inspired by staple kitchen tool in Malay kitchens) where we were having iftar is located at Level 2. The restaurant can accommodate up to 100 guests with menu ranging for local Malaysian dishes to international menu.

After 30 minutes workout at the gym, I came back to the room for a refreshing shower before we headed to the restaurant. There were only 30 pax who booked the buffet dinner on that day, so I needn't worry about keeping safe distance from other guests as there were ample of space in the restaurant.

The choice of menu was moderate (hence the lower price), and some dishes ran out fast that we hardly get to sample it because we went for Maghrib prayer right after having a light meal. The restaurant ought to plan better when it comes to food quantity by preparing more of the popular menu (such as kambing bakar / grilled lamb, chicken satay, and sushi and less of the least taken food.

Overall, the dishes were just average in terms of taste. I liked the grilled lamb's sauce and the cheesy pasta but the rest were lacking in flavour and did not appeal to my palate. The chocolate ganache cake was just too dry and my daughter who normally loves caramel pudding for its light soft texture, couldn't finish hers because it was rather dense. The bubur lambuk was over-spiced so I was glad that I only took a spoonful to sample.

The main dishes also fell short of my expectation. I can tell that the prawns in the sambal petai udang were not fresh as the meat was mushy. I couldn't recall the ayam kuzi and the fish curry because the taste was not outstanding enough for me to remember. The daging salai lemak cili api's broth was a bit too thin for my liking.

The service rendered however was mixed. The restaurant crew was attentive and efficient. Empty plates were quickly taken, and the restaurant manager and crew truly exceeded my expectation when they delivered the cake to our table while singing birthday song (I was just expecting them to deliver the cake without any pomps). My husband was taken by surprise as he did not expect the attention at all!

The housekeeping service was also efficient. I requested for extra towel and a prayer mat which was promptly delivered.

While the front desk staff was courteous and professional, I found the response time was really slow although the hotel appeared to be empty. My calls went unanswered (but they did call me back) and my chat message (via the app) took really long time to be addressed. This is something that the hotel management should improve as the front desk is the first point of contact with the customers. 

I would recommend people to stay here on the same package that we took as there is a huge saving on the buffet package and you can also join terawih prayers at the comfortable surau.

Cabaran PCOS

Pernah tak dengar term PCOS ni?

PCOS ni singkatan untuk 'Polycystic ovary syndrome'. Ia merupakan sejenis gangguan hormon wanita yang menyebabkan seseorang tu sukar hamil dan sukar menurunkan berat badan.

Aku dah lama menghidap PCOS ni, simptom yang paling berat sekali ialah kesukaran untuk hamil. 4 tahun berkahwin tiada zuriat, telinga dah panas je bila orang sekeliling tanya bila nak ada anak.

Pernah jugak menjalani rawatan kesuburan di Hospital Pusrawi sampai pregnant tapi di usia kandungan hampir cecah 3 bulan, dapat tau janin dah takde heartbeat. Masa tu down jugak, paling tak tahan bila bidan kampung yang mengurut masa pantang tu boleh pulak tuduh aku & Suami Terchenta buat keputusan terburu-buru buat D&C (proses cuci rahim). Apapun, syukur Alhamdulillah kami dikurniakan jugak sepasang zuriat perempuan selepas 4 tahun.

Sebenarnya entri ni aku nak cerita pasal simptom PCOS yang kedua iaiatu sukar menurunkan berat badan. 

Disebabkan hormon yang tak stabil, jadi badan tak boleh nak bakar lemak dengan efisyen. Hasilnya, berat makin bertambah walaupun makan macam orang lain yang normal. Lepas tu bila bersenam pulak, berat turun tapi sikit je. 

Yang paling membimbangkan aku ialah PCOS ni punca aku menghidap sindrom metabolik - tekanan darah tinggi, paras gula dalam darah tinggi (tapi terkawal buat masa ni) dan kolesterol pun tinggi. Sejak bulan September tahun lepas, aku dah start kena makan ubat darah tinggi. Baru-baru ni pulak, aku perasan yang aku rasa haus di tengah-tengah malam, kerap buang air kecil dan mata rasa kering yang teramat. Aku syak paras gula dalam darah pun dah semakin naik ni. Ni la akibatnya melantak tak hengat dunia bila balik kampung, Carneyz... << membebel dengan diri-sendiri.

That's why sempena bulan Ramadhan ni aku nak cuba untuk kurangkan makan, elakkan makanan berkanji (untuk turunkan paras gula) dan walaupun berpuasa aku cuba bersenam (berjalan kaki 30 minit). Bagi aku agak mencabar sebab aku kena prepare lauk berasingan untuk keluarga dan diri-sendiri. Contoh menu keluarga dan menu aku bulan puasa ni:

1 Ramadhan:
Lauk keluarga - daging masak kicap, sayur tumis, ayam goreng, kuih-muih, buah-buahan.
Lauk aku - Protein shake Herbalife, buah-buahan (berbuka). Telur dadar, tomato dan avokado (sahur).  
2 Ramadhan:
Lauk keluarga - Ikan goreng, sayur tumis, buah-buahan.
Lauk aku - Protein shake Herbalife, buah-buahan (berbuka). Dada ayam panggang, avokado, sayur (sahur).
3 Ramadhan:
Lauk keluarga - tomyam ayam campur sayur (lobak, tomato, cauliflower, etc.), telur dadar, kuih-muih, buah-buahan.
Lauk aku - Protein shake Shaklee (saja nak try & Herbalife dah habis), buah-buahan (berbuka). Tomyam ayam sahaja (sahur).

Selama seminggu ni tu la menu dan rutin harian aku. Alhamdulillah, aku mula perasan takde lagi terbangun tengah-tengah malam nak minum air, kekerapan ke toilet pun dah kurang malam-malam dan mata dah tak pedih. Jari pun dah tak rasa kebas.

Aku bersyukur lemak badan pun dah menunjukkan penurunan walaupun tak banyak tapi lebih baik dari sebelum puasa. Berat pun ada susut sikit, tak banyak 2kg je. Itulah cabaran dengan PCOS, nak kurus dan sihat memang payah sikit berbanding orang yang takde masalah hormon. Pendapat aku, orang yang normal mungkin boleh hilang sampai 3-4kg seminggu kalau kawal makan dan bersenam tiap-tiap hari tapi sesetengah penghidap PCOS dikira beruntung kalau dapat kurangkan berat badan. Bagi aku, aku fokus untuk sihat je, turun berat badan tu dah dianggap bonus!


Cabaran PCOS

Aku teringin nak buat aktiviti lasak macam panjat gunung atau hiking, tapi sekarang ni pergi jogging dengan muatan lebih ni pun boleh end up sakit lutut, sakit tumit (plantar fasciitis) dan sakit pinggang. Sebab tu buat je yang termampu dulu i.e. berjalan kaki asalkan ada pergerakan yang merangsang pembakaran lemak.
